Description

About the Work Ballroom empowers LGBTQ+ communities through unapologetic performance and a space to foster chosen family. And while the subculture’s fashion, music, and dance has impacted the global mainstream, its history often went untold and appropriated. Through Ballroom in Focus, Google helps the LGBTQ+ community reclaim its untold story and celebrates its cultural legacy. The project came to life as the world’s first and largest digital archive of Ballroom history, hosted on Google Arts and Culture and built in partnership with members of Ballroom and LGBTQ+ non-profit Destination Tomorrow, helping amplify Ballroom’s history and legacy to everyone worldwide. On Google’s homepage, one of the internet’s biggest stages, we launched a logo art takeover created by illustrator Rob Gilliam and the Google Doodle team, paying homage to the Godfather of Vogue, Willi Ninja.
