Birds Will be Back
About the Work According to UN, Turkey is only years away from a water crisis. Research from 2018 showed that there was too little awareness on the issue, as people pursued everyday thoughtless habits, wasting water without concern. The brand, who offers saving water equals to a midsized lake in a year with its detergent, set out revive a diminished lake in order to provoke hope and to depict that individual efforts when combined can make a big difference. The lake chosen for this purpose is Kuyucuk Lake. Kuyucuk, as declared by UN, is a lake of international importance. Home to 233 different species of birds, it is the only source of water for migrating birds with no alternative for miles around. It completely dried up two years ago. Equally devastated, are the inhabitants of the nearby Kuyucuk village mourning for the loss of their livelihood as silence replaced the joyful sounds of birds. When the lake has started to revive, which means birds will be back soon too, we wanted to turn good news into an experience for the villagers. We created a 24-hour-long audio track based on 233 bird species that existed in Kuyucuk and their daily routines. We worked with experts, villagers and sound engineers to create a realistic track that would meme a regular day at the village before the lake dried. There were two different mosques in the village. We used the minarets of the mosques as a medium to broadcast our audio file. It was the first time a Mosque became a medium. The whole experience was documented and made into a film. This film was then aired during the top TV show of Turkey to raise funds for the Kuyucuk project and to motivate people to save more water.
